‘First Breath @ the Barwon Club’ saw students from the first year of the Artist Development Program (Diploma of Music) team up with students from the Audio Professional Program (Diploma of Sound Production) to put on an event that introduced them all to the music scene in Geelong.
The event was well supported by the Barwon Club with students showcasing their talents in front over 100 punters which was sensational for a week night and highlights the groups growing popularity.
The name ‘First Breath’ was fitting. The music performed on the night was a reflection of only a few months of rehearsal. The students performed as solo musicians / singer songwriters or in groups, and came together to showcase original compositions in Jazz, Folk, Hip/Hop, Pop, RnB, and Rock.
The development, not only as solo musicians, but as collaborative composers, has been amazing in such a short time.
It was also the first of many collaborations between musician and sound engineer, with students studying the Diploma of Sound Production thrown behind the desk, solely responsible for the noise throughout the night. It was a true reflection of their training and musicianship, that each sound engineer took charge of the console in a calm and assertive manner, providing professional sound for every performance.
If ‘First Breath’ was an indication of what this team of creatives can do after only a few months working together, the journey they take over the next 12 months would not want to be missed.
The same crew will hit the road again, and will be performing at ‘Leura Park Estate’ on October 8th and doing an acoustic night at the ‘City Quarter Bar’ on October 12th. Make sure you get along and listen to some great music and support the local creative scene.
