CUA40920 Short Course in Sound Production

A unit selection from the Cert IV in Music Industry

*Please note this is not a full Certificate IV in Music Industry

Duration: 24 weeks (6 months)
Delivery: Part-time – 3 hours, 1 class per week in Geelong

This course focuses on delivering key outcomes in live sound production and studio recording. It is suitable for applicants with previous experience in either live sound, studio recording or home studio operation and is designed to further develop skills in these areas. The program has been designed to allow students access to a training environment that simulates the equipment, technologies, and techniques currently used in the industry. It features units of competency that form a short course from the CUA40920 Certificate IV in Music.

Key outcomes

Gain proficiency using the industry standard Pro Tools recording software to conduct multitrack recording sessions

Gauge an understanding of microphone selection and positioning for both studio and live sound applications

Knowledge an understanding of studio hardware setups and the use of standard outboard equipment

Run a recording session including a final mix down of the project

Learn to operate and develop skills with the front of house and side of stage mixing consoles

Ability to learn how to set up a stage and mix live group performances

The following units are undertaken: CUASOU317 Record and mix a basic music demo CUASOU321 Mix music in a studio environment CUASOU415 Record sound CUASOU406 Develop and implement sound plans CUASOU331 Undertake live audio operations *Please note this is not a full Certificate IV in Music Industry
